Bangladesh Village Clinic, Sylhet

Studio Jayga have designed a Village Clinic (also known as The Healthy Living Centre) for a NGO, in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Studio Jayga were approached to develop a concept design and develop construction drawings for the clinic that will provide maternity service, children's services and eye test and operations. We worked closely with the NGO to define the brief and tailor the design to their requirements. The scheme was developed with strong community engagement, which involved the practice presenting ideas to the local community.

The brief was to design an iconic building that took advantage of the flat plane landscape it sits on. The building has a variety of multi-functional spaces that has been designed with a low maintenance strategy and low construction cost.

The long term aim of this project is to boost the morale of the community and instil self-confidence by providing workshops and services that are currently not available in this area. The Healthy Living Centre will act as a catalyst for development on this site where a new government funded road has just been built.
