Momlette, Mile End
We designed and project-managed the fit-out of Momlette’s flagship restaurant, creating a distinctive dining destination inspired by the vibrant street food culture of Bangladesh. Known for its authentic Bengali-style egg dishes and classic British egg favourites with a Bengali twist, Momlette brings together cultural heritage, contemporary design and a strong sense of community.
The interior was designed to reflect the character and materiality of Bangladesh, combining corrugated metal, timber, brick slips and traditional furnishings to create a warm, informal and characterful environment. The large glazed shopfront features a sleek timber counter with low-level seating, inviting customers to sit, eat and watch the activity of the street. Traditional moorah bamboo stools, commonly found in Bangladesh, introduce an authentic cultural detail while reinforcing the restaurant’s relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Corrugated metal sheeting wraps the main bar and kitchen, referencing the materials commonly found in Bangladeshi buildings and adding an industrial edge to the interior. A purpose-designed kitchen hatch offers glimpses into the working kitchen, allowing guests to experience the energy and activity behind the food preparation.
A standout feature of the restaurant is a traditional Bangladeshi baby taxi, also known as a CNG or tuk-tuk, incorporated as a focal point and interactive feature for guests to photograph and share. Photographs displayed along the walls celebrate the community and cultural identity behind the brand, while brick-slip finishes, timber detailing and strategically positioned olive trees add warmth and texture throughout the space.
The entrance was carefully planned to incorporate a dedicated grab-and-go counter, catering to customers looking for a quick takeaway option. A staircase leads to the first floor, where additional seating and a more private dining area provide flexibility for different occasions and group sizes.
Our scope encompassed the complete interior design, space planning, bespoke bar and kitchen detailing, material and finish selection, feature installations, furniture specification, grab-and-go counter design and project management, delivering a cohesive restaurant environment tailored to Momlette’s brand and operational requirements.
The result is a distinctive, culturally inspired restaurant that celebrates Bengali food, heritage and community through thoughtful spatial planning, authentic materials and playful design details, creating a memorable experience from the street-facing counter to the upper-floor dining spaces.
